MARZAN Designs ("MARZAN", "we", "us") makes bespoke jewellery in Sydney. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and what you can ask us to do about it.
We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.
Some of the people we hold information about are school students, and some are under 18. That is deliberate — our School Collection is made for graduating students — and it is the reason parts of this policy are stricter than you might expect. Those parts are set out in "Students and people under 18" below.

What we collect
If you enquire, order, or buy from us
Your name, email address, phone number, delivery and billing address, what you ordered and the details of the piece, your correspondence with us, and payment confirmation. We do not see or store your full card number — payments are handled by our payment provider through Shopify.
If you register a graduation piece
First name and surname, your school, your graduation year, email address, mobile number, the month and year of your birth, whether you consent to care and service contact, and whether you consent to marketing.
We ask for month and year of birth — not your full date of birth — for two reasons: so we know whether you are under 18 and can protect your information accordingly, and so we know when you are no longer a minor.
If you enquire on behalf of a school
The contact's name, role, email address and phone number, and the school's name, suburb and ACARA identifier.
If your school gives us a list
Where a school runs the Graduation Collection, it may provide us with a list of graduating students — typically names and graduating year — so that we can match a piece to the person it was made for.
We will tell you if we hold your information because your school gave it to us, and why. You can ask us to correct or delete it at any time, using the contact details above. We only use roster information to confirm an activation; we do not use it for marketing.
Automatically
Our store runs on Shopify, which collects technical information about your visit — your IP address, device and browser, and how you move through the site.
Students and people under 18
This section takes precedence over anything else in this policy.
- We collect only what we need. Name, school, graduating year, a contact address, and month and year of birth. Nothing else.
- Marketing is off by default for anyone under 18, and they cannot switch it on. No newsletters, no offers, no collection announcements.
- Service contact about the piece still happens. Cleaning, warranty, repair and replacement relate to something you own, and we treat that as service, not marketing.
- A parent or guardian can contact us at info@marzan.com.au to see what we hold about their child, correct it, or ask us to delete it. We will not require the young person's permission to act on that request.
- We do not sell personal information, and we do not use a minor's information for targeted advertising.
When a student turns 18
Because we hold month and year of birth, a record moves from minor to adult automatically on that birthday.
Nothing is deleted at that point — the record of your piece is meant to last, and that is the point of it. What changes is that you become able to opt in to marketing if you want to. Turning 18 does not opt you in. If you never ask for marketing, you never get any.
Why we use it
- To make, deliver, register and look after your piece
- To keep a durable record of the piece and its provenance, so it can be cleaned, serviced, repaired, replaced or passed on years later
- To answer your enquiries and to run the School Collection with your school
- To send you marketing only if you have opted in, and only if you are 18 or over
- To meet our legal and tax obligations
Who we share it with
- Shopify, which hosts our store and holds our customer and order records
- Our payment provider, to take payment
- Delivery and email providers, to send you your piece and to write to you
- Professional advisers and authorities, where the law requires it
We do not sell your personal information to anyone.
Shopify and some of our providers store information outside Australia. By using our store, you consent to that transfer. We take reasonable steps to use providers that protect your information appropriately.
How long we keep it
We keep the record of a piece and its owner for as long as the piece exists, unless you ask us to delete it. That is deliberate: a MARZAN piece is intended to be serviced and eventually handed on, and that is only possible if the record survives.
Enquiries that do not lead to an order are kept for two years and then deleted.
Your rights
You can ask us to:
- tell you what personal information we hold about you
- give you a copy of it
- correct anything that is wrong
- delete it, where we are not required to keep it
- stop sending you marketing — every marketing email has an unsubscribe link

If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your information or your complaint, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or 1300 363 992.
Cookies
Our store uses cookies to keep your cart working, remember your preferences and understand how the site is used. You can block cookies in your browser, though some parts of the store may stop working properly.

We may update this policy. The current version is always on this page, with the date it was last updated at the top.
